MS Dhoni is also called the “Godfather of Indian cricket” because of his extraordinary records in the cricket game. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only captain who won all the ICC trophies including ICC Cricket World Cup (2011), ICC T20 World Cup (2007), and ICC Champions Trophy. Dhoni captained team India in 332 matches which itself is a record. MS is the only Indian captain to win two world cups for team India.
MS Dhoni is the only cricket captain who has played most number of world cups (6 T20 world cups – 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 4 ODI world cups – 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019).
As a captain, Dhoni has hit 204 sixes which is highest by any International captain. Also, Dhoni has won highest number of matches (41 matches) as a T20 captain.
MS Dhoni Records as a Wicket Keeper
MS Dhoni has a world record of most stumpings in the International crickets. Dhoni has taken 195 wickets by doing stumpings as a wicketkeeper and this record is not easy to break. MS has taken 123 stumping wickets only in ODI.
Dhoni has record of highest score by a wicket keeper batsman in an ODI Inning and that is 183 not out against Sri Lanka.
MS Dhoni Records as a Finisher in Cricket
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is called, by his fans, the best finisher in the cricket history. Dhoni is not out in total 84 matches in one day international matches. This means he is able to finish the game without getting out most of the times. He played total 350 ODIs (297 innings).
In 84 not out matches, Dhoni was not out 51 times during run chase. And out of 51 not outs in run chase, 47 times he won the match for team India during run chase.
MS Dhoni Records as a Batsman
- MS Dhoni is the only player to score 2 hundreds batting at number 7 position.
- Most runs without scoring a fifty in T20 matches – 1069 runs in 70 matches.
- He is the only batsman who won the world cup by hitting the six.
- MS Dhoni is the fastest player to become the number 1 ODI player. He achieved number one position in just 42 innings after debut.
MS Dhoni Records in IPL
- MS Dhoni has won the highest number of IPL matches as a captain. He played 226 matches and won 133 matches as a Captain.
- MS Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings played finals most number of times. Chennai played 10 finals and won 5 times.
- Jointly with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings won the most number of IPL trophies with Dhoni as a Captain.
- Dhoni has most IPL runs as a wicketkeeper (5000 plus).
- Most dismissals behind the stumps including stumpings (184).
